I Have been actively working on AI since before ChatGPT, and it has been amazing to watch the growth and speed at which AI models are changing every discussion and conversation around us. Saturday evening, I decided to pen down some of my thoughts. These are purely my opinions… a nice day to compile discussions over the past few days.

First, the elephant in the silicon room: “Oh, AI can take our jobs away!” Look, I get it. The idea of our livelihoods vanishing into the model ether is enough to make us feel anxious. But, instead of reaching for the panic button, we should go for the new knowledge and how we can use it to create a business impact! Think about it. Every major technological leap throughout history, the printing press, the industrial revolution, and the internet, brought about shifts in the job market. Did it eliminate work? Nope. It changed it for good. This time, the AI technology is moving faster than the speed of light. Embracing this is important.

Energy companies with deep pockets will host the LLMs, and we will use them. This is just like when data centres and cloud infrastructure were warming up. Use sophisticated multimodal to power your agents and business. It’s the right time to make some effort and learn!

So, instead of picturing robots snatching our desks, we may envision ourselves as AI whisperers. Imagine upskilling to work with these clever models, leveraging their power to do the tedious, repetitive stuff. At the same time, we focus on the creative, strategic, and uniquely human aspects of our work.

Now, let’s wander down a slightly more peculiar path. “Software Engineers and researchers are working hard to replace themselves. Such a good idea? Is this even possible?” This one makes me chuckle a bit. The thought of AI completely replacing the very minds that birthed it is a real head-scratcher and fun. While AI can undoubtedly automate many coding tasks, debug with lightning speed, and even generate code snippets, the fundamental act of creating, of understanding a user’s nuanced needs and translating them into elegant, functional software, still feels inherently human. The creators becoming… the created’s assistants? The irony is delicious!

Let’s shift gears and step into the area in which I hope AI makes the most significant impact. “We need AI to do its best in the medicine industry, where hopefully we can replace the experts of human markers, they surely won’t like it.” A bit of spicy sentiment here! Look, the potential for AI to revolutionise medicine is genuinely breathtaking. Imagine AI sifting through mountains of data to identify patterns that human eyes might miss, leading to earlier diagnoses, personalised treatments, and breakthroughs in understanding complex diseases. The prospect of AI assisting with everything from robotic surgery to drug discovery is fascinating and holds immense promise for improving human health and longevity. Now, the bit about “replacing so-called experts” and them “surely not liking it”, that’s where things get a little… well, human. Change can be unsettling, and any disruption to established practices will naturally be met with various reactions. However, the goal shouldn’t be replacing medical professionals invaluable experience and intuition. Instead, think of AI as a potent tool in their arsenal, helping replace them ✨.

There is much more to discuss for the next time: Software Engineering Managers to upscale, Software Developers to use AI tools more effectively, Senior Leadership to increase the risk appetite, AI-based self-education to help kids, and investing in robotics.

Take away: The robots are coming… while you are busy!!!
